Loire et Loges

Proyecto Finalista.

The Loire river and its vineyards have long been an influence in the landscape. The vines and the workers that pick up the grapes and their nomadic lifestyle provoked the appearance of the loges de vignes: small buildings where the workers ate, cooked and rested in the same space.

These cabins were the starting point of the project: a shelter for cyclo tourists along the Loire Valley. Architecture for the new nomads, for a visitor that only would be there for a while but could change his mind and stay overnight.

We decided to take the the traditional cabin and strip it to its bare bones. The space that once was interior becomes now a sheltered exterior, while a pod upstairs serves as the private area.

Like a parasitic element, the night area becomes a lighthouse in the distance, a volume that allows to see and to be seen, to hide or to become a firefly in the night.

The japanese have a word 'wabi'  to denote poverty, or rather voluntary poverty- in the Zen sense than being 'thingless' is to possess the world. - John Pawson
Arrive, rest, leave. Stop to catch a breath in your journey. Feel free to stay for the night, or leave whenever you want. Without fuss. You may see it the next day, it may even accompany you along your route. Somehow, its shape is familiar, like one of those vineyard shelters you have seen here and there, it gives a sense of continuity in the landscape, with a certain décalage of time.Under the shape of the house, nothing protects you anymore: separated from the ground and under a roof, this no longer means being sheltered. No walls, no furniture, just a ladder… and then upstairs.Climb, have a seat… or lay down. It’s luminous in here. You can even open the windows if it’s too hot or if you want to see the river without filters… when the night falls, light up a torch, make your presence visible from the outside. - Texto original del panel
